A Bike Ride to Bypass Road
It happened in December 2022, yet the memory still feels fresh—one of those simple adventures that stick with you because of the laughter, the wind, and the people you were with.
I remember Hannah asking me one late afternoon if I wanted to go to the Bypass Road with her. It was around 4 p.m. “Sure,” I said immediately. But then I asked the most important question: “What are we using to get there?” Without hesitation, she said, “We’ll just walk.”
Walking?! To Bypass?! I thought she was joking—because that place is far! We both burst out laughing, and that’s when we decided to call one of our friends to see if we could borrow her bike. Luckily, she agreed and even joined us. That made four of us—four friends, one bike, and a slightly crazy plan.
Our little adventure began when we went to our friend’s house to get the bike, then picked up another friend along the way. Once we were complete, we started pedaling toward the Bypass. We took the road through Brgy. San Pascual, even though we could’ve gone through Brgy. Lalapac which was closer. I guess we just wanted to challenge ourselves—or maybe we were in the mood to tire our legs out that day.
As we biked, we talked endlessly. About school projects, about how exhausting it was to be Grade 9 students, about random things that didn’t really matter but made us laugh anyway. The road stretched out before us, long and winding, but the air was filled with the sound of our chatter and the spinning of bicycle wheels.
When we reached Brgy. Mabilog, the scenery changed. There were more trees, and the air smelled fresher, like the wind had been waiting there just for us. We pedaled past rice fields glowing in the late afternoon sun, the sky turning golden and soft. Eventually, we reached Lalapac Elementary School. The school looked beautiful—simple but peaceful, standing quietly in its own little world.
By the time we arrived at the Bypass, it was almost 5 p.m. The atmosphere there was comforting, as if the world had slowed down for us. The road stretched wide and calm, with the wind brushing gently against our faces. We parked the bike, lay down on the road, and stared at the sky. We laughed, teased each other, and shared stories as the sun dipped lower and painted everything orange.
For thirty minutes, we forgot about school, deadlines, and everything else. It was just us, the sky, and the feeling of being free.
When the sun finally started to disappear, we decided to head home. The ride back was quieter. We were tired, but in the best way—hearts light, legs aching, and smiles that wouldn’t fade. By the time we reached home, the stars had begun to show. I remember thinking how peaceful it felt—how rare it was to have moments like that, simple but unforgettable.
That bike ride wasn’t just a trip to Bypass Road. It was a small adventure, a pocket of joy, a reminder that sometimes the best journeys aren’t about where you go—but who you go with, and how much laughter you carry along the way.
